Allergic rhinitis means allergic inflammation of nasal membrane. It causes congestion, nose running, sneezing, itching commonly. It can involve nose, sinuses, eyes, and ears as well as throat and symptoms like earache, burning and watering eyes, headache etc are common. Though it is not a life threatening condition yet it affects quality of life. Genetics and exposure to certain allergic proteins is the cause of this allergic rhinitis. In chronic stages of allergic rhinitis inability to smell properly, post nasal drip, headache, earache and fatigue are seen. In Ayurvedic view Allergic rhinitis and Sinus, Recurrent Common Cold, is described in Ayurveda as pratishyaya roga. This is mainly a Kapha disease. The symptoms of pratishyay are sneezing, itchy throat and ears, watering in eyes and nasal blockage. According to Ayurveda the proper digestion and elimination of food aids to immunity and prevents the problems like pratishyay. Ayurveda treatment basically focuses on immunity boosting and elimination of toxins. The detoxification therapy along with nasal drops is providing very satisfying results.
